Allergy Test Results and Winter Weather!

After putting Hannah through a not-so-fun skin prick test (about 40 pricks), we have good news! Technically, not one single allergy showed up! Though that sounds a bit confusing considering previous diagnosis, let me further explain. *The picture show here was taken about 2 hours after the pricks so it's harder to see*

There are two potential issues at hand. Either Hannah has already outgrown both the dairy and soy allergies OR they didn’t show up on the test because they are strictly protein related. Dairy and soy allergies are often an allergic reaction to the protein in each. This would explain Hannah’s previous bloody stools and the initial diagnosis of the allergies. The good news is that she’s likely not as allergic as she could be. The not so good news is that she has the potential to develop a protein allergy to eggs. As a result, she is not allowed to have egg until she’s 2 – after that, we try it and see what happens. There is a good chance she’ll be just fine. She is also not allergic to oat or wheat – false alarm.

So what’s the final verdict? Well, it’s overall very good.

  • She stays on her Alimentum (hypoallergenic formula) until she’s one. At that point, we’ll introduce soy milk to take it’s place.
  • Also at one, we’re allowed to introduce dairy. However, we were instructed to introduce it first in something baked or cooked, not a straight glass of milk. We were also told to use a lactose-free kind so we can distinguish any reactions as allergic versus intolerant (there is a difference). If all is well, dairy can be added to her diet.
  • She is to avoid egg (even in recipes) until age 2.
  • She is to avoid nuts and shellfish until age 3 (again, because of her propensity to allergic reactions).

Overall, there is a good chance that she’ll completely grow out of all these allergies, assuming she develops no new ones. Praise God!

In other news, Louisville continues to be blanketed in snow. I’ll include pictures of our snow covered house as well as our hill that all the neighborhood kids decided to slide down yesterday. ;) Even as I type, the snow is coming down nice and heavy. I haven’t decided if I like that or not.

Thank you all for your prayers!

Take care,

You can thank my kids for that pretty hill :)
They were already wanting to go at it again today...
Instead we opted for our bunny hill :)
