Week 34: A Pain in the Hips

Unfortunately, week 34 brought back the hip/pelvis pain. Again, some days are better than others, it just depends. I had two "I can barely walk" days thanks to the pain. Fortunately, Hannah and I have been able to stay home for the most part so I haven't been forced to be out that way. Please continue to pray for me in that area. Tylenol seems to help a little though definitely not completely. I have another OB checkup this Thursday and I plan to ask the doc if she has any other recommendations for pain relief. Yet I keep reminding myself that even if it hurts - I can still walk. And by God's grace, I only have about a month left before this baby arrives and a chunk of the extra weight I'm carrying full time will be gone. Whew.

This weekend my mom and sis will be coming into town to throw my baby shower. I'm very much looking forward to seeing them again as I haven't since Christmas! I'm also looking forward to spending time with some many friends and loved ones at the shower itself.

Benjamin continues to be very mobile in the womb. There's no mistaking he's there, that's for sure. I do feel like his movements are a bit more relaxed most of the time than Hannah's "soccer kicks" were.

Speaking of Hannah, I still don't think she has a clue what's getting ready to happen. We had some friends over today and the youngest is about 8 months old. Hannah kept wanting to play with her and repeat "Baby" over and over. Yet I think it was fun since she was responsive. A newborn will likely not pay much attention to her. ;) She's also cutting some more teeth (in the back) and is still having several moments of attitude as a result. Potty-training is going okay. Some days, she does so well. Other days, not so much. Amazingly, she stayed dry the entire time our friends were over earlier which has not yet happened. That was a small victory!

I guess that's it for now! Until next time...

Videos of Total Cuteness

This one was a stolen idea from our super-creative friend Amanda. She used fake flowers and shovel to "plant" but we didn't have any on hand. Hannah didn't mind... she scooped and shoveled anyway!

These glasses were from last spring before Hannah even turned one. She hated them then but loves playing with them now. She thinks they make her look cool I guess. ;)

Hope you enjoyed a few snippets of our lives. ;)

In Christ,

Week 33: God is so good!

It’s in the small things – and the big things. God is truly a good, gracious, and giving God. Why?

In the last week, God’s been answering prayers regarding my hip pains. Thank you for anyone praying for me in that area, I’ve been feeling much better in that regard. I do have to say that I’m not pain free as I’ve suddenly started having a good deal of pain in my left knee. But you know what? God is still good and it forces me to slow down. I had several days last week where my feet were very sore and swollen. Yet by slowing down and making myself get off them from time to time, I’m doing much better! Funny what rest can do, huh?

We had a pretty busy week last week with church events and responsibilities. Yet in the midst of it all, we were blessed with continued growth in friendships and relationships. Thursday night we had a sweet time of community with the Thorne’s, Cheong’s, Miller’s and Groce’s. We were all able to just relax, be open with one another and point each other to Christ. Praise the Lord. I’ve been feeling pretty burdened about some things lately and after sharing with everyone, I truly felt a growth in peace.

Hannah has just been blossoming lately in so many neat ways. I won’t go into detail in this post because I plan to write an entire one to that means. Her language skills are growing quickly and it’s so fun to watch her start to reason about things. The other day in the car, I told her I was not going to help her do something a third time because I’d already shown her twice. She quickly responded with “again?” James and I had to chuckle… Oh and she’s already transitioned into her new bedroom. It was amazing how quickly she did it. She didn’t even act like there was any difference! Whoo hoo!

My OB appointment was very reassuring. I’d been having what I considered a fair amount of contractions and I was starting to get a little anxious about it considering I’m not yet full term. However, my doctor “checked” me and I had not dilated or anything suggesting labor was approaching. She explained that moms pregnant with a baby other than their first will typically notice every single Braxton-Hicks contraction. She also asked me about things such as the “how” and “when” of my contractions. It seems that almost all of them are activity-related (ex. Bending over, squatting down, using the restroom, standing up quickly). She said that was very typical. Unless I start having contractions that are more consistent and will not go away with water and/or rest, I should not be concerned. She also told me that true contractions that are causing you to dilate will nearly always be followed by at least some bleeding, small or great and to keep my eye out for that.

Aside from that big news (of no preterm labor), everything else is still going smooth. I’ve gained 29lbs (my total weight gain with Hannah). Blood pressure was still nice and low (110/64). They did go ahead and schedule another ultrasound at 37 ½ weeks to continue to monitor Benjamin’s size. That was almost exactly when my last OB decided to induce me with Hannah because of the quick drop off in the size of her abdomen. I’ll obviously keep everyone posted.

I know this has been a really long post but three more praises need to be mentioned. First, God has given us a BEAUTIFUL week here in Louisville. We had several days of gorgeous weather and it seems like the warm weather may be here to stay. Then again, it is the Ohio Valley and weather can trick us pretty easily. Second, I found a favorite watch and ring that have been missing since November! That was really exciting. Lastly, we received an email from our accountant’s office about our taxes. Not only are we not going to owe a ton of money (like I was expecting with business stuff and self-employment) but we’re going to be getting a pretty good deal in return instead! What a blessing considering we’ll have hospital bills rolling in very soon when Benjamin arrives. Praise the Lord – He is so good!

Well, I think I’ve written enough now! If you’ve read with me this far – I’m impressed! ;)

Until next time…

St. Patrick's Day Fun

Today, Hannah and I had the opportunity to attend a small St. Patrick's Day event at our friend Amanda's house. On top of eating lots of green food, painting toast with green milk, painting with green shaving cream, etc., we got to enjoy BEAUTIFUL spring weather outside. Week 32: Growing Discomfort

Over this past week, the nerves in both of my hips have really been bothering me again (see this post for more details). I know part of it is just the increasing weight and I'm not able to get to the chiropractor right now. Please pray as it can be very painful sometimes.

The picture on the left is me at 32 weeks. People keep telling me I'm "so small" to be this far along but I've gained nearly 30lbs... doesn't sound small to me! ;) I've always thought pregnant women with the horizontal, oblong-looking bellies were so strange looking. Well... I guess God wanted to humble me cause I've definitely got the funny belly this go around. Oh well!

I've got another OB checkup this Thursday. I'll give any of those updates then. So far, so good. I'm getting really excited about meeting this little guy! He's moving around SO much these days. My entire belly shifts and changes shapes. It's very entertaining. I still don't think Hannah has a clue what is going on. It won't be too long till she does. Speaking of Hannah, we're working on shifting her to her "big girl" room. She'll still be in a crib (thanks to a loaner from some of our friends) but in a bigger room. Her Memaw (Terra's mom), is getting her bedroom set and may paint as well. Benjamin's room is already ready as we purposely decorated the nursery to be either boy/girl when Hannah came along. It should be interesting to see how the change is welcomed. ;)

Hannah has not been the happiest child lately. She's teething again (she still only has 5 full teeth). There are 3 new ones coming through at once, 2 in the back. She has not been enjoying it at all and I don't guess I can blame her!

Oh... and another exciting thing this week... my old neighbor and good friend Amy came to visit us! She had to be here for a not-so-fun surgery but as a result, we got to see each other for the first time since Halloween. That was really enjoyable... too bad she has to go back home today.

I guess that's it for now! Until next time...

Take care,
Terra

Week 31: Growing Well & Women's Retreat

This week was an interesting one, though not quite as hectic as last. :) By God's grace, I got over the flu rather quickly as did Hannah with her pink eye. However, Hannah did get some sort of a cold (yucky nose and cough) immediately following her pink eye. The cough is nearly gone but the nose is still a little gross. Overall, she has been doing very well with potty training. There have been several times when we've been out places (Meijer, church, birthday party, etc) where she's let me know she needs to go to the potty. It's been pretty exciting. She's far from "there" but she's doing really good in my opinion.

We had our OB and ultrasound appointment last Thursday. Benjamin seems to be growing just as he should be - praise God. I did find it interesting that now he's in the 30-somethingth percentile verus the 5oth as before. But I was assured that was okay. Like Hannah, his noggin' is measuring over the 99th percentile. What is with me and big-headed kids? :) Big brains I guess. I've gained 26lbs (I was told a total of 35 would be good considering I started underweight). My blood pressure was still good: 100/50. Overall, everything is still going well! I'm now into the 2 week appointments so I'll be back again soon. I can't believe the pregnancy is nearing the end so fast!

This weekend, I had the opportunity to attend a women's retreat with my church. It was so refreshing! I had a wonderful time growing in my relationship with the Lord, resting, and fellowshipping with other ladies. It was a much needed blessing. I praise the Lord for those who organized and planned the retreat. I will be posting some pictures here soon.

James is doing well. Working hard as always. He's been excited with opportunities to serve our church both in preaching and counseling. I'm so fortunate to call him mine. ;)

Until next time...

Post coming soon

Just wanted to let you all know I do plan to post my week 31 update soon. I'm preparing to leave town for a women's retreat with our church tonight and I still have much to do. I'll try to get my next post up by Monday at the latest. Thank you for your patience!!! ;)
